Discussion:
Text oddity on Ch7
(too old to reply)

In error I pressed the "text" button on the remote when viewing the
local "That"s TV" channel (Ch7), here in the Southern region. Some odd
wording appeared which was nothing to do with text, but seemed to be
some status report (can Mark help with what the wording means?). Does it
appear in other regions Ch7?

I tried it on the other That"s TV channels, but there was no text on those.

Just tried on Ch7 Tacolneston and got what I presume is the same

2 groups of text which were largely meaningless to me but looked like
some sort of code

So that's how the Russians and Chinese keep in contact with their
agents!
I'll try Tacolneston later, when I've got my drink in hand.

Maybe its a code internal to tvs that tells which ones have updates to
download?
Here it goes fron 6 to 8, which is the local tv, which really these days
seems to be showing old dramas and the odd bit of news. What happened to
local current affairs we were promised?

Oooh, I've just taken a look. It's weird, it seems to be the TV's make
and model (I get SAM(sung)...... and U4E9MU700) with the DVB SID number.

On my LG telly, I get nothing, just 'No Service Available'

Ummmm................

Nothing there tallies with Device or System Information, or the current

number of the TV if it has one).

I found that out when I did an internet search on SID after I sent the
reply. :-(

Perhaps because it's now 8 years old, that github table doesn't include
Ch7. I looked for 32851 on the page, but it isn't there. An internet
search on SID and 32851 didn't come up with anything of interest. I
wonder if it appears on local Ch8 anywhere.

AFAIK SID refers to the SID of the whole channel you are tuned to and
there will be other IDs that identify the video, audio and text streams.

Which one is your local channel?
(Isle of Wight, Thames valley, Basingstoke, ...)

I've joined the party. My local station is chan 8 'London Live'.

On my Humax PVR 9300T I get:
V1.5.9C

SID:32842
WAI:

On my Sainsbury Celcus TV (Vestel) I get:

+
SID:32842
WAI:

So it would seem that line 2 depends on the device and the other lines
depend on the channel.

I still see no ch7. its a samsung 2020 model.
Most people get either only channel 7 or only channel 8, not both.

You'll only get both if you're in an overlap area and are receiving from
two main transmitters that each carry different local channels.

I can almost see Tacolneston from here, but I can't get my Humax Fox T2
to tune in either Ch. 7 or 8. Is there something special I need to do?

Tacolneston doesn't carry a local TV mux (most transmitters don't) so
you obviously won't get anything on Ch 7 or 8

Ah, ok. I thought it had a local MUX, but Norwich is definitely the
wrong direction. There used to be a Mustard TV channel, but I could
never receive it.
