The person on the left of this selfie at the top of the tower is wearing
what could be a safety harness.

It is possible that the stunt was not as "death defying" as the report
suggests. After all, the tower is designed to be climbed safely using
appropriate gear.

They climbed right past the hight power UHF Tx panels on the cantilever
section at the top. The silly twats will have received a huge dose of
non ionising radiation

Will that affect their ability to breed other idiots?

My grandpa always used to say that the reason my dad is an only child is
that he (grandpa) worked on a radar station during WW II and received
massive doses of radar microwaves which affected his fertility. Apparently
no-one realised that when they walked past open waveguides which made them
"a bit warm" they were cooking their balls.

It's possible, but their eyes would have suffered before their
genitals. Did he suffer from early cataracts?

I expect they will have but divide the overall ERP by the amount of
panels around the mast then the number of them vertically so perhaps not
that much.

And exposure will depend on time spent there near the panels so??

Who knows?..

Oh, really? The transmitters point inwards? They'd have copped some
radiation, yes, but hardly a "huge dose"

Wish they'd climbed on a clearer day and taken some steady scenic views
- I'd have been able to see my house.

The top cantilever section has no internal access, you have to use the
external ladder to get to the top, so you are passing in front of the
radiating panels. Take a look at the video again.

Here's some on the ground

I wouldn't want to be within a foot of a high powered UHF antenna, directional
or otherwise. The inverse square law means you're going to get a damn high
dose that close no matter what its orientation. I've receieved a mild burn
from a 50W 27Mhz antenna, god knows what UHF one running in the KW range
would do.

you might get a 20dB reduction at the back - that's still plenty of RF

Looking at the longer video (reference later in this thread) it looks as
if the ladders go BEHIND the main transmitting panels. As you say the
top-section ladder is external but that looks to be higher than the main
tranmission area.

The top section is the main high power UHF stack, and the ladder runs
along side the panels.

Yes but its getting more popular this sort of fun and dangerous
experiences. I wonder if its something lacking in modern life
somewhere?.

Perhaps its we don't go off to war anymore;?..

Interesting that the camera in use seems to be unaffected by the RF
fields up there see 3.00 onwards...
