Discussion:
Receiving signals from 2 transmitters

We live in Cardiff. When we search for Freeview channels on our Bush
STB, it picks up all the channels from the Wenvoe transmitter then
picks some from Mendips too, overwriting the BBC Wales ones with BBC
West channels.

I think the aerial is pointing to Wenvoe. Is there any way to restrict
the channels to those from Wenvoe and avoid those from Mendips? I
think I can manually tune the STB based on the channels but that
sounds like a pain (perhaps tune the Mendips ones first and then the
Wenvoe channels second so we can see both, but default to the Wenvoe
ones).

Mendip. Put an attenuator in the aerial feed temporarily while you do the
scan. The aim is to drop the Mendip channels below threshold without doing
the same to the Wenvoe channels, so you might need to experiment with the
value of attenuator.

You could always but a "combining filter" for Group B and Group C/D.

fit your aerial to the group B input and put a 75ohm resistor across the
group C/D input. This should reduce the Mendip signals significantly and
make them not seen by the STB.

A third idea, is to pull out the aerial connector when the scan
starts. Wenvoe's DTT channels are lower down in the UHF band than
Mendip's. The highest Wenvoe mux is on UHF Ch50, the lowest Mendip one
is UHF Ch55. So if you plug the connector in once the receiver has
scanned past Ch 50, you should only capture the Mendip muxes. Finding
the right moment to plug in might prove frustrating however !

Sorry Ben. I've re-read your post. It's Wenvoe you want, so pull the
plug out after Ch50. You get the idea anyway !

I get the idea. I might give it a try. It strikes me that there is no
real information for the average Freeview punter to sort these
problems out especially when getting to technical things like
attenuators etc. At least with the old analogue TV you plugged it in
and that was pretty much it.

Which brand of STB - it's clearly got added intelligence :-)

Steve
:-) Its a Bush. As an Englishman living in Wales I'm not bothered
about S4C, but equally am not interested in the "news" from Bristol.
