Discussion:
Humax PVR - 9200 vs 9300

I'm currently the proud owner of a 9200T, which has been running very
nicely for three and a half years. I'm happy with it's functionality.
However, I've recently bought some new under-the-telly equipment, and I
can't get it to fit in my existing TV cabinet. I've looked around for a
new cabinet to suit, but an alternative solution is to replace the 9200T
with a 9300T, which is smaller. Crazily enough, this is looking like the
cheapest solution!

However, before splashing out £190 or so, I was hoping to get some
reassurance that the 9300T is as good as the 9200T. If there's anyone out
there that has experience of both, I'd be grateful for a comparison. The
feature list for the 9300T seems fine, very good in fact, but how does it
stand up in real life use? Is it reliable? Is it quiet? Is it
responsive?

Thanks in advance.

With restricted space, how hot does it get, I wonder?

my 9150 doesn't get hot at all.

To help the OP. I think that I have the same software as the 9300.

It has some annoying bugs, but whether they are in the 9200 I have no idea
(actually, as they are conected with AR they are probably new).

I don't think so! Humax have a rather odd interpretation of the rules
of AR. This results in many recordings starting up to 20 secs in, and
some chopping the end.

I would advise going for another make, Sony (other makes are available),
e.g. implement AR correctly I'm told.

One of the bugs is:

You set an instant record.

You then go and set to record via the EPG a program that starts immediately
after the instant record.

And the second recording fails with the error "could not record because of a
conflict". Which is a nonsense as even if there was a "time conflict" for
one of the record channels the other could have recorded it!

Haven't come across that one!

Have a look in the record list to see if it's remembered a series link
from another programme.

If you have AR off you can't save series links

I've had that problem on the 9200 as well. Thanks for your help. I'm
keeping my money for now, while my research continues.

I'm not worried about heat. The front, sides and most of the back of my
tv cabinet are open, so there's plenty of airflow.

The 9200T has AR too, but I've not tired using it. I prefer to go with
the padding option, which hasn't let me down yet. The blurb for the 9300
suggests that it has the padding option as well - is that correct? If I
don't use the AR functionality, would you expect the operation to be
reasonably bug free?

Thanks to all for the replies so far.

So do I, but the addition of AR means that some things don't work quite
right.
