Discussion:
Difference between MHP system and MHEG system?

Anyone care to explain the differences in use or operation or what the
viewer / user would find with LED TV with one or other of the subject
system.

The reason I ask is that Samsung EU39F5500 specifies the MHP systyem
and the EU40F5500 specifies the MHEG system.

Other specs are same (except of course screen size, weight, power and
peak luminence ratio).

Samsung web quotes the following prices.

UE39F5500 RRP UKP 599.99
UE40F5500 RRP UKP 649.99

However Curry's / PC World have the EU39F5500 on offer at UKP 399.00
but Richer Sounds have the EU40F5500 at UKP 449.95

Since the odd inch in size is unimportant to me,what can I expect to
find operationally or viewing from these two different systems.

P.S. I have read http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1201877
and I am completely lost. I can glean nothing from it. Help!

Freeview in the UK requires MHEG for digital 'text' and red-button.

OK I'm joking, but it does seem to me that companies are hiding their real
specs behind buzz words and abbreviations the average buyer knows nothing
about whatsoever. There needs to be some plain speaking in this area.

One thing to check if you can and/or beware of is that the
EU39F550 might be a DSG special whereas the EU40.... is the
standard retail product and the screen is actually 39.5 inches!

From past experience you could have trouble if you need a repair
on a DSG special.

The UE39F5500 and UE40F5500 are listed on Samsung website,
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/
and that is where I pulled the specs for the System. The UE39F5500 is
also available from Amazon £399.99, Electronic World £389.99, and
various other outlets in the £450 ish price range.

I don't think it is a special made for Currys / PC World

I have a quickish search for other Samsung TVs using System MHP

It is strange. Samsung says UE40F5500 is System MHEG5. However online
retailer in Eire says UE40F5500 is System MHP.
(see http://www.seanhennessy.ie/products/samsung/TV/UE40F5500/ ).

However another Eire online retailer, see

http://www.soundstore.ie/Product/Samsung-UE40F5500-40-Smart-WiFi-FHD-LED/4406/2220.0.3
also comes up with with UE40F5500 and in the tech spec listing it
says:-
Countryspec view Country data (ZG) Germany, Austria, Switzerland DVB-T
/ C HbbTV
(ZF) France DVB-T / C HbbTV
(XE) Nordic DVB-T2 / C
(XU) UK DVB-T2 / C MHEG5
(ZT) Italy DVB-T2 / C MHP
(XC) Iberia DVB-T / C HbbTV
(XN) Benelux DVB-T / C HbbTV
(XH) Others DVB-T / C HbbTV

It looks like the TV is country specific. That rules out the Currys /
PC World offer for me. The Richer Sounds UE40F5500 at £449.95
including '5 yr guarantee' looks to be the safe bet. However that TV
is only availabkle to instore customers, not on line. I'll have to
check out my local Richer Sounds.
