Discussion:
ITV3 sound with no picture?

Does anyone else have trouble switching to ITV3 and getting sound but no
picture ? I've found I can "go" there without problems from Channel 5, but
not from the rest of my "favourites" on my old Philips Ondodgy box ? It
seems even being on the same multiplex (2) doesn't work, but instead I have
to be tuned into something using the same QAM method (mux A).

Curiously, I don't seem to have problems switching to other ITV/C4 channels
on the same mux, but occasionally C5 comes up with the old red dot. (It is
often marginally more interesting than the broadcast programme, admittedly.)

I've never had this problem. My Pioneer OnDigital box sometimes has a
problem changing channel, but that appears to be more a problem with the
interface between the remote control and the OnD box (not duff batteries or
lack of line of sight!). Assuming that it will recognise a channel-change
instruction (as proved by either echoing the channel digits or by putting up
the channel name banner) it reliably gets both sound and picture - for any
channel that's broadcasting. The delay between selecting a non-broadcasting
channel (eg BBC4 during the day) and getting the BBC's "not broadcasting at
this time" graphic can be as long as 30 seconds on a bad day.

My old Pace ondodgy box has started exhibiting this. ITV3 is
involved but I must admit I have not logged the exact channel from /
to and button pushing sequence. Selecting any other channel after the
pb starts does not resolve it A power on / off from the remote fixes
it. Then I can always go to ITV3 without fail. But again I do not
remember the sequences. I will monitor more carefully from now on.

I forgot to say that a reboot cures it, temporarily. No biggie really, if
the box becomes too unreliable I will simply replace it - I don't think it
owes me anything, and it would be nice to get a 7-day EPG.
